February March..The walls come down and the floors come up!

Fine weather weekends get the family on site, taking down the walls, and stacking the bricks. Evie and Ella make regular site inspections with GGs Floss and Bill.

The older bricks are removed as carefully as possible as they are to be cleaned and reused...see Joanna James and Bill clinically chipping away at the old lime mortar. On the other hand some walls were built more recently with cement mortar and required a heavier hand..see Antony with the big hammer. Dorothy Jen and Nat haul and stack the bricks..good muscle building exercise!

The old concrete floors had lifted in places due to reaction with red shale which had been used as a levelling filler in the past...so we thought it would lift easily ...unfortunately not; after 2 days Darryl and Tony had the shakes and much of the concrete remained..up to 10inches thick. The lumps of concrete are to be used for walling support
